Midtown matters

Two glum midtown buildings are in the middle of a makeover.

St Cyprian's is being turned into a block of flats with a ground floor restaurant and the scaffolding is creeping up (thanks to Fintan for the photo):

Esso's being turned into a slightly nicer Esso:

Next step for midtown should be the development of the carwash plot ..

Is anyone certain that they are refurbishing the Esso station and not removing it??

ground floor restaurant sounds exciting! potentially more so than beer battered cod. although that is also welcome...

Waitrose and Virgin Active have bought the site and plan to build a supermarket with a gym on the upper floors. It will be built by Jay from Budgens and his 17 children.

Yep, very certain - there's a big sign on the fence explaining that a "better Esso" is on the way.

I have lived in Ladywell for over 20 years and there's NO WAY these sites are in Ladywell (even Ladywell West??), which ends way back near Prendergast HF college. This dirty, tatty street is Brockley!!!! b.t.w. the loft conversion on top of the Victorian building next to St.Cyprian's has to be one of the ugliest and least sympathetic ever - and it makes me grind my teeth every time I pull up at the junction.

If only Jay would bring his Budgens to the Cross side! They are the friendliest people ever, and run a clean, super efficient shop. Best customer service by far in this area and a real supporter of local schools. And no, I am not related!
