The online home for all things Brockley (SE4), Deptford, Ladywell, Lewisham and New Cross
Can someone explain why the Brockley Road shopping area, stretching from Wickham Road to Adelaide Avenue, never benefits from any (municipal?; old-fashioned concept) Christmas lights, whilst Brockley Cross and Crofton Park areas do? Similarly regarding flower baskets during summer.
I hope that this change: http://brockleycentral.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/council-plans-improvements-to-brockley.html will be a turning point for the area.
I live around 'Midtown' and the council and Councillors doesn't give a crap about the surrounding area.
Had 'a nasty taste in my mouth' recently passing by and popping into a Brockley Farmers' Market close by St. John's Church. Saw a scrummy pulled lamb and goodies wrap £7 that, from the preparation with salad and savoury sprinkles looked scrumptious. Paid and took the contrived aluminium foil wrap back to my car where, not properly wrapped, the lamb grease had dripped all down my front. What a con was the greasy over-priced wrap. The lamb, from the taste, was nothing more than a very cheap boil in bag leg that had been, with other cheap 'lamb leg bags' been offered as 'pulled lamb'. Tell you what! My leg was well and truly pulled with that Brockley Farmers' Market overpriced £7 meat wrap.
the 'christmas lights' are laughable, would any one miss them? in fact does anyone notice them?
those wraps are fantastic, it must be just you
Clearly, 'monkeys' will eat anything. Lol
£7 for a wrap?!? What is it that made food in Brockley more expensive than Belgravia?
Well you do !
Yes, just register on my conciousness. We have some lights wrapped round a lamp post on Malpas road. Pointless, doubt they cost much but i wouldn't bother. How about you? do they fill you with cheer? do you leave work early so you can be there when the switch on happens?
I would just like to make the distinction between the two Brockley markets. The one advertised at the head of this post is the annual Christmas Arts and Crafts market in Coulgate Street by Brockley station. This is a completely separate entity from the weekly Farmers' Market on Lewisham Way. Brockley is super lucky to have both, I say!
About the same cost and size as a large shish from Gulens, I don't think either are especially overpriced.
Well with limited cash at the council I suppose that's all they can afford... Esp after splashing out on the fireworks which I enjoyed...
And 1 further distinction, Brockley Market on Lewisham Way is NOT a farmers market... Brockley Farmers Market consists of about 3 stalls near the cafe on Hilly Fields one a month...
No , bah humbug
Maroush on Oxford Street charges the same. Not sure they have the same fixed costs stucture than a Brockley Market stand.
