Hot Chips - Brockley's Rock wins best chips in London for second year in a row

I know I will not have this forever. But I promise you: The next person to hold it, earns it! Because our time is now! Because The Champ is here!
- John Cena

The Brockley's Rock team has been made two-time winner of the "Best Chippy Chips in London" and are celebrating with Brockley's biggest ever chip-giveaway. They say:

"Last year, Brockley's Rock won the prestigious 'Best Chippy Chips in London' award, certified by Chip Week.

"We've been recently notified by Chip Week that we've won it for 2015, a second year running. To celebrate Chip Week, members of staff got dressed up in outfits influenced by the 50's for a photo shoot.

"Next week we're going to be throwing a Twitter competition in which Local businesses will have the opportunity to win chips for their workplace.

"The business chosen will have to be based in SE4. All they'll have to do is tweet: 'We want Chips! @BrockleysRock #ChipWeek.'

"Every day we'll pick a business at random and deliver them some chips, fresh from the Brockley's Rock. It's been a great start to 2015 so far, and we've got some more stuff planned in the coming months."

As much as it's the best in London and I'm not one to pour scorn on a great local business, it just underlines how bad fish and chips in London are in general. Go to Yorkshire or the Northeast and eat proper fish and chips, and you'll be disappointed every time down here. Oh how I long for something cooked properly in beef dripping down here.... Still, glad to see Brockley is best at something yet again!

Indeed, London is not a really a good place for Fish and Chips.

In northern towns there seems to be a local chip shop on every corner and a lot of competition that raises the standard. London does not have a great density of shops given the population. You have to go out to the coast to find a good selection of businesses.

Brockley Rock is, however, very reliable. Quite a traditional place in many respects, well organised and friendly service. I wish we had more businesses in Brockley like this, doing one thing very well.

The most important vote is the one people make with their feet. It is a very popular place.

Believe me I agree - if i eat it down here, it's always the Rock. I just don't as often as I would otherwise... They do do a mean battered sausage though - always have one as an "extra" with my fish&chips, usually to eat whilst waiting for my order to be cooked. Nom nom nom.

You should try Fishy Business. God honest chippy with Northern portion sizes and incredible chips.

Yes I love Fishy Business... I have had fish and chips at Brockley's Rock but it was a few years back... I'll have to revisit sometime

That "good honest" place on Greenwich High Road - Golden Chippy, opposite Bar 57, also does amazing chips...

It was a couple decades ago :-( although it was probably still after the change in the law. I assume the local council had the same laissez faire attitude to takeaway hygene that Lewisham council still have!

cos it takes so long to get served. I had to wait more than 10 minutes for just a portion of chips and I only got a regular when I paid for a large portion. very disappointed
