Whenever I've been in, I've always thought it was a place with potential. Mind you I've been saying that for about 8 years now, so there is probably something I don't know.

Anyone know what's happening with the Goose in Catford....bouncers (and not very friendly ones at that) searching bags and checking people as they enter. I've been using it for a long time and never saw any bad trouble in there. Are they trying to close it down I wonder!!!!!!

Place smells of stale beer and vomit.

Goose or Hobgoblin?

Hobgoblin. Like many pubs cigarette smoke probably masked the stench for years, but since the smoking ban places like this reek unless they are completely stripped and renovated.

Maybe it will be called The Red Rose again - does anybody know if it was calld anything before then, or was it always The Red Rose?

£175, 000 is cheap. But what will it cost for the re-furb to bring it up to standard? £50, 000. £100.000?

Outrageously bad staff with an even worse attitude towards those paying a rip off price for their shite drinks. The only appeal about the place is the beer garden, but ultimately the place is a cunthole and doesn't deserve business. Worst pub in New Cross.

While I realise it's not exactly the greatest pub in the area, it will be a shame if it is changed too much. Their Thai food is cheap and tasty and I feel that the mix of clientelle there is maybe most representative of the area, yes, you get lots of students, but you also get a real mix of locals from across the age spectrum. It's also the only pub i've ever been to which has a loyalty card scheme!

They're renovating it now and the old (?) Rose name is visible on the wall. Anyone knows what's happening there, who bought it etc?
