Brockley nature reserve opens on Sunday

Jez writes on his blog that the Brockley Nature Reserve is open to the public on the afternoon of the 5th.

For the uninitiated, good luck finding it, based on the directions provided.

It's on Vesta Road - which is now a two way street, so it's not so bad. Make your way to the Telegraph Hill lower park, then head straight over the roadabout and keep walking down Vesta Road. It will be on your left. I'm glad they've started announcing when it will be open. You used to only get a piece of paper stuck up in Telegraph Hill Parks on the day before.

I've only recently moved to the area but have already helped out at the reserve once.

It's great! It's a really under-appreciated resource - it's rare to find spots of uncultivated wilderness in the middle of London.

If only it could be made a bit better sign-posted it would definitely get more use, but I thoroughly recommend people get down there this Sunday afternoon (2pm - 5pm).

Anyone manage to get to this? In the end I couldn't make it as I was conserving my own nature reserve, namely my back garden - grappling with hedges and reclaiming the wilderness!

i did -- it was *lovely*.. a real idyll, if you don't mind the odd train rumbling through from time to time. Its not huge, but highlights include a wooded bit, a glade repleat with wildflowers, a few benches here and there, and blackberry brambles throughout. A very pleasant hour or so, highly recommended on a sunny day! Rather inconceivable that this is all in the Brockley/New cross borders.

I didn't this time but I've been to one of the open days before. It's quite a nice stroll - takes you less than 20 mins to walk around it. Although it annoyed me that I was looking out for things on a nature stroll when other people clearly hadn't been and thus they'd trampled all the fungi. *sigh*

Hey BrockleyCentral people - not sure how to email or otherwise contact you, so apologies for being a bit of comment spam, but I was wondering if you might be able to tell your readers about an exhibition opportunity for budding artists from the area which I'm running - Project Brockzilla - where people submit pictures of the area with big monsters and giant ants and zombies in the streets of Brockley...
