Brockley Police Station residential development proposed
Brockley Police Station (2-4 Howson Road) was sold earlier this year to developers Holbrook Investment Limited, who want to turn it into a residential property. A public consultation is now under way on their plans to convert the station itself into four new homes and to build a new terrace of five two-storey houses to the rear of the building. The centre of the building will be converted to gardens.
We were hoping forlornly for a mixed development, but these plans seem pretty reasonable to us. With thanks to Auntie Kate for the image.

The police station sits on the Howson road site whilst the picture shows as Kneller road, the yard at a guess will be a garden or gardens. The police station to the front may have some mixed use but from memory has a covenant over it and probably some form preservation over it but don't quote on that.
Yes, this is the new terrace on Kneller Road. The conversion of the police station will be resi, not mixed, according to this proposal.
Just from looking at that photo it looks ok, though it will be important that the brick that is actually used looks something like the one in the planning application. The grey huts that Wandle housing have used for the new housing by brockley station westside don't look the same colour as I remember in the planning app...
I also think they could have gone for 3 storeys given the need for residential space in the area... that design with dormer windows might look ok...
Well mixed was a stupid idea for this location, Brockley needs more homes not zombie commercial units.
Hopefully common sense will prevail although councils seem to like the extra business rates regardless of demand/suitability.
It's clearly going to be resi, so rest easy. And I never thought shops were a good idea here - they would be zombie units. But offices or a restaurant would have worked well here, as well as homes. As Brockleyite says, you could actually fit a bit more housing on this site.
How about a community space which the police etc could have a presence as before.
why?
Agreed on more units, a block of large flats/duplexes built around a communal garden would be good. Works well on the continent, families can't live in pokey flats and there is no space for houses.
You reckon an extra storey or two would fly with the locals? Looks like the developers are playing safe which is a shame.
Mmmmmm, 60's council house chic. Classy.
Does anyone have news about 180 brockley? Has it been ditched altogether? I have also seen one of the walls on the north side is bowed and someone what surveying recently.
Macdonald Egan website says the project has been sold in March.
When did the police station go empty anyways?
