You're welcome, Crofton Park - A farewell to George

George's, the Crofton Park barbershop, has closed. After 25 years on Brockley Road, George has decided to call time on his shop and we've been contacted by a number of readers saddened by the news, who want to wish him well.

Good luck George.

A genuinely nice chap.

This was the first consumer experience I had when I moved to the area and I've been back every month since.

All the best to George and his family.

Always a friendly welcome and chat from George and his wife. Gutted I couldn't pop in for one last trim :(

Where's the nearest old-fashioned barber now?

Such a shame. I don't have much need for a barber's shop these days, sadly, but it's great to have them around.

@Matt-Z: the nearest really old-school one is probably in Deptford, on Douglas Way next to Good Friends Chinese takeaway. That's where I used to go when I lived in SE8.

I regularly drive to Kam's Barbers on East St (off Old Kent Road)

For real old school charm, you could try Tony's Gents Hairdressers on Gibbon Road by Nunhead station.

£7.50 last time I went.

Thank you to George (and your wife) for all the haircuts. Wishing you all the best for the future.

Pete - I like Tony's but I wouldnt use the word "charm". Shabby and not chic.

Have they already closed or are they about too?

Sad to see them go.

All the best to you and your family George.

Was sad to see George shut. LIke many have said a really nice guy and a good old fashioned Barbers. THe good news is that he will be working on a Friday and Saturday at The Barbers shop in Honor Oak. It the one by the bookies and Mclarens. I remember when it was Ozzies years ago. So will be going there for trim.

I really like the barbers opposite the exit of New Cross station. Very good.

Ello Matt, didn't know we used to go to the same hairdressers...

Sorry to see George go...friendly chap and his wife is a nice lady too.

Crofton Park won't be the same without George.

Did he do beards? I never saw him do one.

Noticed a planning application for change of use to A3 (cafe) in the window of this vacant unit. Planning statement says the applicant intends to serve cold food - cakes, quiches, sandwiches, panini, salads and bagels. Ref is DC/11/78740/X. Will be great to have the unit brought back into use.

That sounds fantastic, well spotted Eagle Eye!
