Brockley Cross sell-off

The properties on the corner of Brockley Cross and Brockley Road have been auctioned off. The sale was for a:

Freehold three floor building with planning permission for the conversion of the upper floors to provide two x two bedroom flats. The ground floor comprises two shops (one let) and one office (vacant).

The corner unit was vacated by an electrical shop earlier this year and many other units in the area lie empty, but on the opposite side of the road, the success of the Brockley Deli has shown the potential of this location.

With thanks to TTD.

Isn't that where the lovely flower shop used to be? I remember when I 1st moved to Brockers in 2006 there was a flower place on the corner there before it vacated and got taken over by a money transfer shop...

It would be fantastic if this area could have some decent shops in it. It looks scruffy and since the road/parking has been done (and with the deli) it could start to be a lot more prosperous!

Does anyone know who lives in the scary red house?

The council needs to help promote businesses in the area. Look at what Southwark did for Bellenden Road and Nunhead. Clean up shop fronts, improve the area landscape, etc... They're improving around Queens Road Peckham now. Lewisham council are blind to this potential. They are holding back development in this area.

Lewisham should merge with Southwark, our shoddy high streets and crappy developments are testament to the fact they have no clue at all about anything planning wise.

Agreed about Lewisham council. They've just approved turning Bird's Dress Agency into housing. Ridiculous!

Which one's the "scary red house"? The one on Wickham Rd?

Lewisham just doesn't allocate much in the way of resources to planning and public work.... They establish conservation areas but don't enforce any of the rules (if you're not going to enforce a cons area why waste money making it in the 1st place?), they use firms like Conways etc... Southwark seem to be much more forward thinking in generally upgrading the outward appearance of streets and areas....

The unisex family hair salon two doors down from Brockley Deli and next to Nat's is also being done up - anyone know what that's going to be?

Decision notice says granted under DC/14/87194

Statement from Lewisham Council I received about this on Friday says: "No decision has been made yet as we are still in the statutory 8-week period to determine the application - which finishes on 25 August."

Anon is right. This is what the planning portal states:

Date: 28 July 2014
Property Ref: DE/100/253/TP
Our Ref: DC/14/87194
PERMISSION FOR DEVELOPMENT

Development: The change of use from mixed use A1 (shops) and 2 one bedroom flats above, to create 2, single dwelling houses at 253-255 Malpas Road SE4, together with alterations to the front elevation, single storey infill extensions to the sides & extensions to the rear roof slopes, the installation of 4 rooflights to the front roof slopes and 4to the rear roof slopes.

Yes, which is why I asked for the statement. It could be that the press office has cocked up.

I hope the 'Brockley Cross sell off' site doesn't go the same way.
The planning department's mad!
