Jones of Brockley - the secret history

Mystery Man: We've met before, haven't we?
- Lost Highway

One of the many benefits of new local shops with savvy owners who don't just try to bolt a sheet of plastic over the top of old signage, is that their renovations help to uncover our high streets' pasts. This shot, from new deli Jones of Brockley (coming soon to Crofton Park) reveals the evil that lurks below the surface.

Do you know if the new antipodean restaurant South (former BFM) has stalled? Is it still opening?

Are you going to ask this question every few weeks? My understanding is that they are still pressing ahead, though, as often happens, they have had to change their plans somewhat, etc. If you want to know any more than that, you'll need to ask them.

"Are you going to post this question every few weeks?"

er, yes -why not? At least until someone gives me an answer that sounds like it has some authority.

Duh….What do you think I'm trying to do? I only know of THEM via this website. I was hoping that THEY would answer my post… as yet that hasn't happened. Until then I'll have to go on 'your understanding.' Thanks for your help on this matter.

They might answer your post if you post it in the right place. Or they might respond if you post a letter through the door. Or they might not and you'll have to wait. Until then, there are lots of other nice places.

Only joking of course. I dislike the labelling of Tories as evil. It is facile and self-righteous.

Tbf, if people posting repetitive $%^& in random places bugs you, I'm not sure running a community blog is the right career/hobby.

(Sterling job otherwise, though.)

And mildly OTT in most instances.

Hi there!

Very grateful you inquired, Gone South! 'South' is not 'gone' in the least; as Nick indicates, though, we had to rework things, for lots of reasons that I'm more than happy to tell you about some other time. We made lots of mistakes and miscalculations in the early weeks and months. But the project is stronger for these having been made, called on, and addressed, and Brockley will definitely be the better off for our being farther along the startup learning curve.

Anyway: the good news is that a light, friendly spot is going to be opening up towards the end of the summer holidays. We will be offering breakfast inspired by cafe-bakeries in Copenhagen, where they're very good at mornings; a daily brunch like you've never seen before; non-traditional pizzas on a crispy crust; and a more extensive, seasonal evening menu. We want everybody who comes to find something they like, and we want everybody to come back all the time :-).

Thanks again for following along. We were pretty annoyed at having gone quiet for a while there, but we are delighted to be starting on the right course and so much looking forward to joining the neighbourhood.

Yours/emma

Thanks for the reply Emma.

Glad to hear it's still going ahead. Better late than never.

It was a mistake and was meant to be 'Conservatory Centre'.

Mind you Mrs T had her moments.

Hey Emma, just checking if it is going to be in the same location (Mantle road)? Haven't seen much action going on there ....

Hi - it is indeed going to be in the same location. There won't be much action for another couple of weeks, and then you'll see the whole thing open and built and decorated and blossoming in preparation for opening in August. All the prep takes time; the build is the easy part.

Brilliant! Can't wait!
