Albertines spring clean

The pub currently living with the working title "The Lewisham Coffee Co", briefly known as the Malt & Hops and once known as Albertines is getting work done.

This photo, taken through glass in this morning's drizzle, doesn't really do it justice but thanks to a lick of paint, some sanding and a de-clutter, it's already looking nice.

Whether it heralds a re-opening or is just evidence that the owners are finally putting some effort in to shifting it remains to be seen, but this pub has great potential in an area that still has too few good pubs to choose from.

"Little Nan's Tea Cup" - Its got to be the vacant unit in the Tea Factory...

Little Nan's is upstairs at the Talbot.

Where is this pub, is it in Brockley or "Greater Brockley"?

Russia invades Ukraine. Brockley invades St John's. Brockley Market is practically in Blackheath..

It's at the Lewisham Way end of Wickham Road.

Thanks, so Greater Brockley.

The Savoy on the Strand is the nicest hotel in Brockley.

Brockley.

St Johns is not an area. It's just a few streets and a station. It needs the shelter that being part of Brockley provides. Besides, as any fule kno, this pub is in SE4 and part of Brockley ward. The whole "that ain't Brockley" argument is a bit 2008... Move on. Trade up.

St Johns has always been part of Greater Brockley and I congratulate the people of St. John's and their strange pub.

Coincidentally, I also had a peak through the window today. I can't say I am as impressed with the interior job as you are. It looks a bit bland to be honest. Not like any pub I'd fancy going into. And what's with all the mirrors? Were they there in the Albertines incarnation? They weren't there when it was Malt & Hops or Clarendon.

Well give them a chance. They are still decorating. I just like the fact it looked like the floors weren't sticky.

I know. I'm a bit premature - though I'm just so tired of seeing pubs painted in pastel colours.

You need to get yourself to the Montague Arms. I'm tired of seeing pubs closed and / or mismanaged.

St Johns was known as Deptford Model Town when it was built.

Please don't tell me you are going to claim the Montague for Brockley (or even Greater Brockley)! Oh - and Albertine's is Deptford borders, surely ...

Brockley Nick said...

no. And yes, Deptford Borders is otherwise known as Brockley

Hopefullly. I finally got the chance to go to Little Nan's Bar last Fri... It looked cosy but it's tiny and we could barely get through the door. We also went to the Big Red Bus earlier in the evening - that place has changed! I last went there when it had recently opened and it's much busier now although no one seems to actually sit in the bus anymore, they all sit under the makeshift roof bit bolted on the side

Brockley Nick said...

Speaking as someone who has gone there with children more times than I can remember, I can assure you that the bus itself is still VERY popular.

As far as my 2 year old daughter is concerned the only reason we go there is so we can sit on the bus. She loves it.

Not if you want to live in Deptford. But in fact all of the area is actually in the Palatinate of (Greater) New Cross Within the Reaches of Lewisham (incorporating lesser Bromley).

Wherever it is, it currently seems to be on fire...
