Lewisham: The Royle Borough?
With their Millennium status now fraying around around the edges, the people of Greenwich have wangled themselves another title.
From 2012, Greenwich shall be known as a royal borough, a title which guarantees a Beefeater for every street corner and makes our own crown look pitifully arriviste.
Lewisham's motto is "Salus Populi Suprema Lex", which is actually pretty classy: "The Welfare of the People is the Highest Law". We're also quite fond of the logo. But if you were to confer upon Lewisham borough a special status, to help us keep up with the Joneses to the east, what would it be?

Hang on, are you saying something positive here about Lewisham Council?
anon 21:58. Don't give up the day job.
I'm actually a big fan of the old Lewisham Council logo - the Saxon crown in the circle, possibly now only seen on a few "don't let your dog crap here" signs on lamp posts.
It probably looked outdated whenever it was replaced with that hands-together-stuff, but that 70s "BOROUGH OF LEWISHAM" typeface next to it looks quite groovy.
Actually, why does Lewisham have a Saxon crown as its logo?
A People's Sarfdom.
The new logo is a sort of Saxon Crown and is very clever - for once the designers probably deserved a fee for their work.
This is a fun site...

Yeay! The link works - thank you Jon.
I think it's time to scrap the crown and bring back the full coat of arms thingy as posted by Tamsin. Two fingers to the logo designers who would charge millions for designing a new logo...
Have we paid for this? How much?
No-one's paying for anything. Nick just used the current LBL logo (that came in about six or seven years ago) as an illustration for a starting comment on London Borough of Lewisham with a side-swipe at Greenwich. Someone talked about the old logo and things slid off track from there.
I agree HH The coat of Arms would be fine,Lewisham Council waste enough money as It Is.
Greenwich is the land of my birth - it was less a side-swipe than an affectionate prod.
New motto 'fallsona arsa noni grittati pavemento'
I would change the name of the borough to The Borough of Lewisham and Deptford to reflect its history as 2 boroughs joined and to give Deptford a boost.
Its special status: Transition Borough - for the Greens amongst us - ask one if you don't know what it means
Or Fair Trade Borough for similar reasons
ok ok too worthy perhaps...
You can still specify that the mayor wears the much nicer, larger, older Deptford insignia for official events in the northern part of the Borough.
Greater New Cross
The Vale of Lewisham
Nightstalkerville
I note the "Royle" borough as opposed to the "Royal" borough. Please let's have neither.
Ah so now Deptford's alright since Its been tidied up a tad.
"Borough of Lewisham and Deptford"
Actually that ain't half bad a sugestion.
"The Royle Borough of Lewisham and Deptford", perhaps? Mirrors the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea on the other side of London
The Realm of Bullock
The other borough
