Yee gods! Brockley runner selected for the Commonwealth Youth Games

Richard writes:

Brockley boy Alex Yee, who trains at the Ladywell Arena with Kent Athletics Club, has been selected to represent England at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the 3,000m.

The games are being held in Samoa in September and each country can only take 21 athletes so it is very impressive to be selected!

This week Alex also ran the 5,000m qualification time (with an incredible 14:09!) for the European Junior Championships being held in Sweden, but will have to wait until early July when UK Athletics announce the full squad to know if he has been selected.

Well done Alex. Puts my 40 min Park Run effort into even sharper perspective than it was already. I assume I must have had the honour of being lapped by Alex in Hilly Fields on more than one occasion. Good luck to him.

Think I remember this lad at Park Run one time... I've only been once or twice and managed around 19 mins IIRC but he was def a few minutes in front of me and that's a hilly course...!

Well done to Alex! There's some great talent coming through from Junior Parkrun now as well. Open to all 4-14yos, every Sunday morning 9.30. Meet near the cafe. Free timed 2k race. http://www.parkrun.org.uk/hillyfields-juniors/ The children should be registered on the Parkrun site before attending the first time so they get the barcode that's used for timing. That's all the formality involved. Attendance is running at 90+ per week, which is fantastic. Well done to all the organisers.

Very good 5k time for someone his age - especially given he has been training as a triathlete! Might be worth ditching the swimming and cycling...
