Burned-down house bows to the inevitable

The fire-ravaged house on the corner of Upper Brockley Road and Geoffrey Road is finally being demolished. Following a fatal fire last Spring, the house had been surrounded by scaffolding so elaborate that scaffolding companies travelled from miles around to marvel at its ugly splendour.

Now, work has begun to take it down.

The neighbouring MOT garage is a target for redevelopment, although previous plans for housing on the site were rejected by the Council.

Good news, wouldn't it be nice to redevelop both sites with a local gym or some bars!

A local gym would be fantastic for those of us too lazy/strapped for time to go to Ladywell, which is barely worth a visit anyway - I tried running on a treadmill and it said I was running with too much force! I could hardly tip-toe-jog!

I prefer the gym at Wavelengths...

Great news - now, can we have a bar/pub with some decent music, no weirdos and some space for us young folk to bop around in please?

Top of my Brockley amenities wishlist is a gym.

Richard - you say you can hardly tip toe jog, however apparently (I have been learning) you are not far from the ideal running technique. Many people heel strike and role the foot forward before pushing off. This sends shock waves up your leg and pelvis rather than using the bodies natural "suspension", your calf muscles.

The ideal way is to increase cadence and run lightly on the balls of your feet, not using your heel at all. In fact pro runners run in shoes with barely any heel/heel cushioning at all. This is supposed to reduce injury due to running.

See the internet for info on the "pose technique" or "chi running". I need to learn about these, I've got a stress fracture in my calf through running...

Sorry, lecture over...

Headhunter, I know exactly what you mean - my dad used to take me to the park to perfect my running technique as it was my pace that let me down in my youth football days!

Still, I don't think I pound my feet with any greater ferocity than the average runner, I think maybe Ladywell treadmills had something against me!

Ah I see. Best get out and run in the great outdoors then. We could start the Brockley Central Run to go alongside the Brockley Central Bike Ride.... before long we'll all be triathletes...

How about building a house so it looks exactly like the one that burnt down there?

I came across this post when i did a search for runner groups in Brockley-- I have never done any exercise but now am seriously thinking of running -- as my daughter has turned one and the flab around my girth keeps on increasing.
so anyone interested in running-- starting a running group-- support beginners -- around brockley -- telegraph park or around-- please do let me know-- i need the inspiration to tag on.
cheers
