I love this place.Great food.Good prices.Friendly staff.I like the simplicity of eating there. The only thing missing is a beer while I eat. Keep up the good work.
Does the best pho outside of Vietnam.Moira
deelicious - and very good takeaway too if there's no room to eat in. Proper mix of vegetables means you feel quite healthy when you eat their food.
I agree with Moira, I like their Pho too. The one with the dumplings is my favourite. The service is very friendly and I like that you can *see* into the kitchen (which is very clean).I also like that they deliver too, in fact that's probably the best part.
Really good, fresh, tasty food. James - you know that can take beer in?
DELICIOUS! Fresh ingredients, friendly staff, highly recommended. Long live, Long Time!
I was delighted when they opened and now has become my favourite Brockley eatery.I have been many many times and never had a bad meal.Very tasty food and very friendly service, takeaway delivery can be a bit slow at weekends but still worth the wait
is long time cafe any good for vegetarians?
they do veg spring rolls and all sorts of stir fry veg with noodles or rice and also a very tasty tofu and veg thai curry amongst other things
I also love the place. I find the quality of the food better than most take aways ive been to and at a very resonable price. The staff are always very friendly and I would certainly recommend going there.
I rate this place highly. Great service, the guys are really friendly as are most of the customers because it's so tiny in there you can't not get talking to people. If you don't fancy chatting, there's usually newspapers about. One thing I will say about the food, whilst it is always delicious, well flavoured and spiced. The quality of the final product varies. Something like the thai green curry, is a lot more roughly made, rustic, with the vegetables not as finely chopped as usual, depending on who's cooking. I find the rice to be a bit pricey. If you get takeaway it comes in plastic containers. I have a loads of these stacked up, but what can you :). Anything negative I've said are but niggles. This is a great place to eat. It's saved me from beans on toast many an evening.
in a burst of public spiritedness, so that we could contribute our own thoughts to this debate (yeah right) we got a takeaway from long time this evening. delicious.
The Long Time is one of those places that is just effortlessly right. Bet they didn't sit around for hours developing their 'brand'. Just chucked in some Ikea tables and chairs and knocked out some simple but delicious food. Also a nice bunch of guys, they only look about 18! but they've built a good little business. keep it up chaps.
The prawn, rice paper rolls are awesome!
Though the food is very good they did go through phase where the takeaway orders lacked accuracy.Longtime is up there with Uncle Wrinkles in New Cross and that Chinese place next to the Brockley Jack.A good quality takeaway that is also a humble restaurant.
Finally gor round to trying this place last night, and it was absolutely fantastic. A revelation! Can't believe it's been on my doorstep for the past 2 years without me knowing.
Me and partner went to Long Time Cafe as he had been told it done good food, and it wasn't just good food it was great food, great prices and staff friendly.will be back next time im in London :) and no doubt my partner will be back before then
Am going to join the throng here. Had my first delivery from Long Time last night and it was great. Quick delivery, friendly guy, good prices. Easy as that!
Not to sound too clueless here but where is this place? Cuolgate St is the one right outside the station with Broca and Magi... Where is Long Time in relation to those? Sounds like it's somewhere I need to be fraternising
Oh thanks Monkeyboy... Round the corner there... I'll have to try it sometime
This isn't supposed to be offensive or a bit 'know it all' - but I'm genuinely surprised to hear that someone can live in Brockers and not already know about this place. Does anyone else find this remarkable? For one it tells me that my experience of living here is different from other peoples - and yet I suspect Headhunter is quite similar to me in terms of age, lifestyle, income, etc. To me the Long Time Cafe is a Brockley institution, to others it may not even exist - weird...Rob
Sorry! To be honest I probably need to get out and frequent our local places more often. I've started buying stuff from Dandelion Blue now and then, but although I live in Brockers, occasionally nip out for a drink, I don't often go out to eat in the area, as if I'm near home I just go home and whip up a storm in the kitchen and a barely ever eat takeaways. I used to live on Upper St in Islington with all the bars and restaurants on my doorstep but if I was in the area, I would just go home!
It's a totally fair comment - it's just 'weird' or 'incredible' (not sure what word to use) to me how two people from the same area could have different experiences. I guess one of reasons I checked out this place when I first moved here was the name of the place, it made me laugh. Rob
@RobI went to a community meeting a while back, in which someone, who was very proud of the fact that she had lived in Brockley for more than 50 years, asked where Brockley Common was, what 'Brockley High Street' (admittedly, its proper name is Brockley Road, but still...) was and had never heard of a couple of local businesses which we refer to on the site, regularly.
I'm nodding sagely at my desk at the wonder of it all...
The fact that you seem as incredulous as if you had just seen Elvis Presley ride by your window on the back of the Loch Ness monster, sounds like I really do need to go to this place! If it doesn't live up to my expectations, I'll blame you, Rob ;)
Go on a Friday when they have these prawn/rice paper 'things' as a cold starter - fantastic. I do rate this place and for you i'll stake my reputation on it. On another note - Monkeyboy - are you a fan of OK Computer???
We had a takeaway at the weekend and we found it a lot pricier than we remembered.I'm aware of food price inflation but 25 % price rise sounds a bit steep(I still have an old menu and was able to check)Gentrification=local takeaway at west end prices?
The standard at the Long Time does vary somewhat and the prices have creeped up. The small restaurant does not stand on ceremony, you get starters and main meal at the same time and they where once famous for cocking up take away orders. But these are niggles, the food is quite special. The spring rolls are the best. Love the soup noodles.Long time has many fans.
Went to the Long Time cafe not so long ago. Thought I would try it on given the raving reviews on this site. Not quite sure what the fuss is about. It is an ok place, with decent enough food but prices are a bit steep. Think Smiles down the road same quality, felt cheaper and given that the eat-in space is bigger, you are less likely to leave smelling like you have been stir fried in a wok.
Has it closed? :-/
It's looking dodgy now isn't it - over a month closed. Shame nobody knows any of the Longtime guys.
I'd heard it was going to reopen as a 'cafe' by the same people who ran it before.
The shutters were half open the other day and stuff was being moved around.
And to think that everyone took the piss when we suggested it had seemed to be closed for longer than normal after "chinese new year"...
Pleeze pleeze anyone know when they are opening again???
And how about Dandelion Blue? Is the "under offer" sign still up?
Had a take away from Long Time last night (it re-opened yesterday) and you'll be pleased to hear it wasas tasty as ever. They aren't delivering yet and the menu is a bit more limited at the moment. Still highly recommended!
Not sure if it's changed hand since these comments but we've just had a very bland and unimpressive takeaway from here. No SE Asian flavour in any dish, just bland steamed veg and meat in dull sauce with a bit of chilli. No balance of salty, sweet and sour which make thai and viet food so tasty, no herbs in the papiya salad, no crab in the crab spring rolls. Very disapointing after all the good reviews. Maybe just an off day.
