I like it and I like the staff.it's a good combination of healthy food, relaxed environment and natural ingredients. if only they could expand - it's aways packed....
...if only he could scramble eggs....
I like TM2 - I have a huge soft spot for it, so the occasional off day can't harden my heart. (To me it still seems like a very new place, so, goodness knows, I am bewildered by the sudden influx of places that have arrived in the last nano-second!)I don't think it does a particularly good weekend breakfast - I've tried 2 or 3 times and it is just too busy and chaotic then for it to be cooked right, but I have had some good evening meals there, and one absolutely excellent one when I booked one of their rooms for a group. Also good for drinks, light meals, paninis.
I used to love going there and still go occasionally, but ever since they got those electronic thingy mabobbys, it seems to have made everything worse! Part of the places charm was that it wasn't trying to get with the times. I reckon they've stressed the staff out as well. They're not as friendly as they used to be. Shame.
I really enjoy going there in the summer and sitting in the garden for lunch on a Sunday - but I haven't been in a very long time. The reason being it is often far too full and there are now lots of other options. Ecosium, opposite, usually gets my custom instead as I can get the buggy in easily, the fish tank keeps the kid amused and there is always somewhere to sit.
yes i always find it too busy at the weekends and cant get a seat - but I do still pop in regularly to get one of their chocolate twist pastries for Brekkie as they are fab!
The evening set menu is good value - £10 for 2 courses or £12 for 3 courses. I have always eaten well here.
I love the toad's mouth I go there for my birthday lunch every year, i especially enjoy the summers, did they end up getting their late lincense?
I wish I had such a rosy outlook as the rest of the posts here, but in my experience, the coffee is awful and the staff are scatty from the top down. The cooked breakfast used to be expensive, but passable. Recently I've asked not to have beans with it & been told they can't do special orders at the weekend. The final straw came when I was served a sawdust sausage. Everything the management seem to do at this place seems wrong.
DON'T GO!!! A pathetic excuse for a restaurant!!!I live locally and have used this dump on several occasions and each time I swear to my self I'm never going back. The staff especially the owners are there are just plain moody. I asked for single fried egg once and got refused rudely and I''m always disappointed with the portions. It's quite sad that someone can fu*ck up something as simple as smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. There are so many better places to eat around there.
Disappointed with the portions? They're usually huge!
anon's talking about the food Nick
I arrived in the area in 2007 and after seeing enough Fried Chicken places to make me want to go into the battery hen business, it was a pleasant surprise to find the Toad.It is a cafe with good food, friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere.I go there at least once a month and it is always busy. The busiest I ever saw it though was on the stay-at-home snow day earlier this year, as the 'working-from-home' lot squeezed into every nook and cranny consuming the wifi and quaffing their lattes.
Have to stick up for Toad's Mouth here.I remember the food options in Brockley befroe Toad's (shudder). And the Anon must be in the minority with their thoughts as it is popular and keeps doing a roaring trade. BTW the owner has always been friendly, remembers me by name despite my sporadic visits, and asks about how things are going (remebering the detail from the last conversation we had months ago). A great place.
Too many reviews read as though they have been written by other cafe owners, yes they do customerize the breakfast in fact every single time I go in they do, the staff are very friendly, if you don't find them friendly well i would have a look in the mirror!
