Aladdin's Cave - Clutches of sad remains, millions weep a fountain
We're always reluctant to pronounce time of death for a local business, but weeks after BC readers first reported that it was loooking suspiciously closed, Aladdin's Cave, the Crofton Park cafe, is still showing no signs of life.
It seemed a little confused about what kind of place it was and the passer-by might have struggled to guess what it had to offer, but nonetheless readers had given the coffee and service pretty positive reviews. We're sorry to say it looks like it's fulfilled the Seinfeld prophecy. BC is very bad man.
In other news on this strip, the Thai Mini Mart is still closed and BC regular Paddyom reports the Crofton Park mini mart has changed owners, with no visible side-effects.

I think it went a while ago, to be honest. I was supposed to be exhibiting at A.C. for the Brockley Max, but I heard nothing for a couple of weeks and then when I went past it was shut. And I never heard anything back.
Sad, as the owner seemed really positive about working with the local community. And, tonight after picking up work @ Tea Leaf Arts, I noticed someone was in there, taking out fittings and fixtures.
I saw someone loading a van from there 3-4 weeks ago. Couldn't see what was going on inside as the shutters were down, but furnishings / decorative stuff seemed to be on the way out.
I had a bad eating experience there. The prices weren't that much different to the Brockley Mess but they were many many miles apart in terms of quality.
When I saw this headline, I thought you meant Aladdin's Cave on Lewisham Way which would be tragic indeed
Yes I thought you meant the junkyard cum old railway station on Lewisham Way too...
Ah Aladdin Sane.Thats the title reference. I get it now. Very clever, have to admit to having to google for it though.
Does anyone know what is happening with the shop next to the Rivoli that used to be Whites hardware? Its been closed for a year and a half now.
I don't understand why any landlord would leave a shop in such a good location empty for so long?
Or the 2 or 3 empty units opposite Jame Circus, or the former Jones & Virdi offices?
*Jam Circus*
Sad it may be, but it just wasn't very good - badly-made coffee and very boring sandwich fillings, in my opinion.
I am not surprised this cafe is closed. The coffee was diabolical. However, it looks as though someone has already taken over the lease, as there are workmen in there and appear to be completely refurbishing the place. No idea what it will open as though
It closed at the end of April - it only lasted about 6 weeks.
A pity though - they were really friendly, the terrace was lovely and the coffee was good.
The coffee was completely watered down - bit like the lib dems:)..
Moseyed past this afternoon and workmen just putting up last of about eight low, framed mirrors, each with a little shelf ... so looks like it's going to be yet another hairdresser.
