Conway in two pictures

Here's the new strap line for Conway, Lewisham's favourite construction and maintenance contractor (top picture): Great people, great work.

The bottom picture shows a large Conway storage unit, that's been there since they finished the first stage of the Brockley Cross works, some weeks ago. Since we recently learned that the next phase of work won't begin for a while, we hope that the great people of Conway will come and remove their junk from our pavements soon.

Thanks to Fintan for the top photo.

I can't comment on the presonalities of the work force, but I do know that the Brockley station area is a monument to their so called 'great work'.

It's falling apart.

Don't hold your breath, there was one of those on George Lane (Hither Green end) for weeks after they finished, and still left loads of sand, rubble in the gutter after they removed the container.

We've had Conway's rubbish on the pavements westside for over 6 months now, even on bits of pavement they 'finished' months ago...

If you ever doubted that cycle lanes are an afterthought in London’s urban planning then the recent work on the West is all the proof you need.

If you are heading up Mantle Rd towards Endwell Rd on a bicycle, you are encouraged to ride on the pavement (a dropped kerb assists you) for about 5 meters until you reach the pedestrian crossing. The reason for this is because the road bends. There is no cycle lane before the dropped kerb and no cycle lane after the pedestrian crossing.

It will do wonders for cyclist / pedestrian relations, not to mention a waste of time and money.

You've just reminded me to create a cycle forum on SEC.
