The business formerly known as Sweeney's Cafe on Ewhurst Road, Crofton Park, has now re-opened as Hungry Horace.
Seems to be the same fayre as before – not sure on the ownership but there was a steady stream in there today – Mother’s day and all!
Good to see local business trying in the recession. Fingers crossed. Food was ok – hope they get the passing trade to make it a long term presence in the neighbourhood.
Good name...sounds like a children's cartoon character.
Hope this lasts longer than the last one. Love the name too - it makes me happy!
had this under Sweeney'sServing "caff" food, but decor a bit nicer than high street cafe's of the fixed metal chair types. Already well frequented by local families.Very friendly and willing new owners. Had Mothers day sunday lunch which was a decent enough roast. They are still working out opening hours/ days (ie whether Sunday opening will be the norm).Would be great if it survived, as a useful place round the corner.
Yes I hope it survives too; was very sorry when Sweeney's shut. It was perfect for a Saturday morning: buy the paper next door, a leisurely breakfast, then over to the butcher's for meat & veg for the week. All just around the corner. Who needs a car!
Presumably named after the ZX Spectrum character, which is magnificent.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horace_series
I've eaten and the food (egg, bacon & chips) was great.
Just had lunch here. Standard cafe classics done well and very reasonably priced. Had a nice chat with the owner, definitely coming back.
Love this place. Its our local caff. They are working hard to make it a cut above - he offers fantastic Turkish food, pide, kebabs etc in addition to the usual caff menu. Really friendly, welcoming, and involved in the local community. Do check them out.
Looks like Top Chef has some competition, definitely room in the localality for some more honest fare, keep up the good work.
Had a meal there tonight, it was a mezze style set meal. The food was beautiful, the man who works there/owns/runs the place was very nice and accommodating ESP as I was vegan and the other 3 people with me were vegetarian. There was so much food we had it boxed up to take home, it was £20 each and we brought our own wine. I would def recomend for a Saturday night mezze.. But wear your Xmas dinner pants.. With elastic you'll need it. :)
hungry horace cafe, the whole package right on your doorstep.
