Crofton Park, east of Java

Pratish has relocated in Brockley and now uses Crofton Park Station rather than Brockley Station to get to work. He seems otherwise very happy, but the caffeine imbalance between the two locations is getting to him - he wants to know where he can get a decent cup of coffee in CP.

Aside from Pat-a-cakes, are there any other places we can recommend?

There is an imbalance in the force..... Maybe Browns could consider a franchise? :-)

Franchises are inherently evil, did you not get the memo?

The bf swears Starburger caffe latte is the nicest in the area. I haven't tried it myself, I favour their milkshakes.

Buy a flask and some coffee from a corner shop??

Talking of franchises being evil, I've heard horrid rumours that Costa Coffee are scouting the area (yes, honestly).

Try Hungry Horace on Ewhurst Road

Lord knows the area needs some more decent places to eat and drink.

The odd franchise or chain wouldn't hurt. I'd even welcome a Pizza Express.

I'd love a decent coffee shop in Crofton park it's not fair that forest hill has three decent coffee shops and we have none.

I’d actually welcome a franchise in Crofton park as they are not always (emphasise always) drains on humanity as they can pull in business to other local shops.

Anon- Hungry Horace. I would love to support these guys and buy my coffee from there in the morning but their opening hours are very sporadic, and they seem to be closed more often than not...

Anon at 13.29 - there is a coffee shop in Crofton Park, Pat-A-Cakes. It may well be primarily a cake shop, but it does a good coffee.

There is also the cafe that is seeking planning permission to convert George's barbers, so there should soon be two in Crofton Park.

Top Chef is reasonably close to Crofton Park too and they do excellent coffee.

Again with the Top Chef! If you aren't the owner I'd be a bit worried about this obsession.

Wasn't there a rumour recently that George's the ex barber shop right opp the station going to be a cafe at some point - or did I just dream that??

Remember having my pony tail cut off at Georges before I got a real job.

Ahh the memories.

What do you mean "again with the Top Chef"? No one says "again with Broca"

Jam Circus does a decent coffee, not takeaway though obviously.

I think Top Chef guy is to be commended for keeping his business name in the spotlight.

(Full Disclosure: I have no relationship with the owners or management of Top Chef, its servants or agents)

@Anon 14:07 - I think the opening hours are getting more regular now. It might be worth another try.

I think that anyone opening a coffee stall at Crofton Park station would rake it in. There is nowhere open near the station during pre-8am commute time that does good coffee.

Incidentally, can I just say that Starburger, just down from Mr Lawrence, near Crofton Park Station, does a lovely breakfast.

Pratish said...

Thanks all!

I agree with spincat, needs to be open pre-8am...?

Happy for franchise/chefs/barbers anyone to serve one but, would love a cuppa!

Anon @ 10:01 - I have two flasks, but can get lazy and would prefer to buy one on the way... call it lazy or helping local business!

@Spincat/Pratish, as spotted by the mrs this morning, on top of the 3 coffee shops, Forest Hill now has a second coffee stand at the station. WTF? Share the love people, please!

Having sampled the coffee offerings available in the Crofton Park area, it is a sad fact that they teeter unsteadily towards the mediocre.

There is no-one who takes it seriously. The early morning commuters are denied a caffeine uplift to jolt themselves into wakefulness. There are corporate butts that go unkicked because of this this sad local deficiency.

This is a shame and an opportunity.

Brockley Jon said...

Amen to that!!

I hear a rumour that a social enterprise called Green & Tasty will be opening a cafe in the library with the CP commuters caffine needs in mind!

Anonymous said...

Why does it have to be "Green"?

So glad this conversation is happening. As a recovering New Yorker, I've come to believe that locals aren't big on breakfast out (unless its a full english) or coffee before 9AM. Without resorting to a Costa invasion, it would be nice to have a good espresso in the morning. By the way, Jam doesn't open til noon and Mr. Lawrence doesn't do takeaway.

Dear all,

Worry not, as the co-owner of the soon to be opened coffee shop aka Georges, we will be there to give you the 'real coffee' hit you so sorely need! We are currently scouring the finest independent coffee roasters in the land for the holy grail of beans and i think we found it! Our coffee machine is being delivered this friday, fridges and cooking things soon to come out of storage and recipe books being dusted off. So we will be supplying you with a real coffee at last, made by trained baristas who can cook too! Watch this space, we will put a blog type thing up once building work starts..................
