The day the laughter died
Every man has to settle down eventually. You know why you gotta settle down eventually? Because you don't want to be the old guy in the club. You know what I'm talking about. Every club you go into, there's always some old guy. He ain't really old, just a little too old to be in the club.

The Good Times are over for Brockley. La Lanterna's ground to a halt, The Tea Factory's tea shop still lies vacant and now, JLC's show on Five, recorded at the Rivoli Ballroom, has been cancelled.
On the plus side, it means we no longer have any obligation to be polite about him, on the minus side, the show was a genuine boon for local businesses like Jam Circus and of course, the Rivoli itself.

I have it on fairly good authority that the Tea Factory tea shop will open late August when the proprietor finishes his catering course at college.
At least that's what I heard on the grapevine.
OK some bloke I was talking to in the Talbot
Well that would be good news. Almost enough to put the smile back on the faces of the people of Brockley, who've forgotten how to laugh since the JLC show was canned (or perhaps since it was commissioned).
I assume the Tyrwhitt Road corner caff won't happen either. Correct?
You know the Age of Austerity (TM) is here when the snacking options for brockleys intelegensia dwindle.
JLC cancelled? I'm stunned. Have C4 provided a helpline?
While we're on the subject of celeb types visiting Brockers (OK, stretching it a bit to put JLC in that category), I saw Dr Who's new assistant walking down Brockley Road the Saturday night before last, all glammed up and possibly on her way from the Rivoli. She was trying in vain to hail a taxi, so clearly just visiting...
I wouldn't know her but is she the one who was interviewed on radio 4 the other day? Awful interview, she had nothing to say for herself.
Yes, that's her. She's only a kid (about 21 I think), so not surprising really - I dare say she'll have more to say for herself in due course.
I hope the use they got out of the Rivoli has given it a boost in terms of a venue for this sort of thing.
With the popularity of dancing shows its a shame it hasn't been used for just that, given it has such a large sprung dance floor.
I suspect JLC will next be seen on celebrity come dine with me up against George Galloway.
Both destined for the jungle surely.
Do you think George Galloway and the Cat man are one and the same?
I went to one of those Justin Lee Collins shows at the Rivoli, and I have to say the hour we stayed for was one of the longest I ever endured. Great boon to Brockley businesses and all, but what lame, turgid 'entertainment'.
@STO - no, I'm more for REAL than George Galloway, AND I look much better in Lycra..,!
Dr Who's assistant had been to see a show at the Brockley Jack Theatre!!
JLC is rumoured to be the presenter for the revival of 'Bullseye'.
Any pubs in Brockley with a dartboard?
The Royal George has a dartboard, and some people claim it's in Brockely.

Double post and mis-typed Brockley. Damn.

didn't that fancy choclate place shut down as well
Choki? They have apparently stopped trading although they never had any actual premises. They sold their stuff at markets mostly.
Do you think Karen Gillan (the doctor who assistant) got a reduction at the Brockley Jack by mentioning Brockley Central. I am now going to have a little weep that I, a forty five year old woman so indoctrinated by dr who fans in house ,that I know her name.
Sad sad old woman
Skehans on Telegraph Hill has a dartboard and is *near* Brockley.
I knew her name too but didn't want to admit it ;-)
You CANNOT be serious, Choki of Brockley has stopped trading?!? IF. true this AWFUL news. Please can some supply accurate info.
That's what they said on their Twitter feed a couple of weeks ago. I know no more than that but they've been very quiet since.
Afraid so.
Thanks for confirmation...
The chocolate is great, there's a good range of flavours, the packaging delightful, I (grudgingly) gave several bars as presents as well as buying a good few.
Wonder whether there is anything that can be done to help them?
anyone know if the Degustation online business has shut down? i needed to get someone a posh thank-you gift recently, couple bottles of wine would have been perfect, especially packed and sent by someone else - but i couldn't find their website.... I used to just google it I think.
It was definitely still open yesteday, Angel!
oh sorry didn't see the "online" bit of your query ... just meant the shop. Didn't realise there was ever an online store.
Does anybody know what they've been filming at the Rivoli recently? Drove past there twice last week and at least six film-type lorries parked. I hadn't realised that the JLC show has been cancelled either. Didn't like it much but obviously good for local Brockley businesses.
Terry's All locks was told it was "One Day" though they wouldn't tell her who's starring in it, but a check on imdb says Ann Hathaway.
