Serious incident on Shardeloes Road [UPDATED]

Superman: Well, I hope this experience hasn't put any of you off flying. Statistically speaking, it's still the safest way to travel.

- Superman Returns

We're getting reports via Twitter that a serious incident has occurred this evening on Shardeloes Road. Early reports suggest a middle-aged man wielding a large knife and behaving erratically was arrested by dozens of policemen at the roundabout at the junction of Shardeloes and Vesta Road.

UPDATE: Mike, who wants to stress he is NOT a Daily Mail reader, alerted us to this report in the Daily Mail, which is pretty comprehensive.

What's happening to Brockley? Is everyone doing knives these days?

Brockley Fox said...

Oh so THAT'S why I heard every cop car in london going past my window! I guess people are turning to knives because they can no longer afford the guns.. what with all the cut backs!

Matt-Z said...

That's exactly what happened. An angry bloke was waving a massive machete at an ever-growing number of cops. The traffic was backed up all down the road, I turned my bike round and went over the top way (Barriedale, Millmark Grove) which offered a different view from half way up Vesta Road. By the time I got there even more police had turned up and were advancing on him with riot shields. Oh, and half the neighbourhood had come out to watch.

Neighbourhood watch eh.

Alisam said...

..Well in short he is mentally disturbed and I assure you they walk amongst us every day , but we don't pay them any mind.

But today was judgement day!!!

Oh, will Jesus show up do you think?

I too heard all the sirens - thanks for explaining that, I wondered if it was anything to do with the bomb warning.

Sounds like it all ended without bloodshed, which is at least good news.

Cool, so the 21st is the date to get your own Bang Olufsen. The groups write up about getting some new stereo equipment reminds me of the song April 29 1992 about the LA riots by Sublime.

people like this should not be on are streets.they should be in a mental hospital getting help.

It's called "care in the community", is a cheaper option and SLAM are facing cuts.

To the piece of sh****t in the black car that cut me up to get away from the machete man (junction of Vesta Road)when I was closest to him is a pathetic COWARD!!! WTF! I was closest to him. The highway code does not apply in exceptional circumstances like yesterday's event. The fact that you that you would have had right of way in normal circumstances was irrelevant. SCRAP THAT!!! I could have got chopped just because you were so desperate to hang onto life. What happened to chivalry you piece of C**P.....
YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!

Highway Code - Ammendment 2.3a 2011

If you are endangered by a machette weilding maniac do you:

a) Check your mirrors, indicate, relase handbrake and proceed if safe to do so

b) Ask your passenger to distract the maniac while you affect your escape.

c) slip into the foot well and wimper, assuming that if you can't see them they can't see you

d) Engage first gear, rev the bollocks off, drop the clutch and scream up the road scatering disabled children and old folk as you go.

[answer a or d]

got a 7 minute long video of it...it's pretty mad...

@ Brockley Dogginbg Society
oh option D definitely!

@ anonymous.
I don't suppose you have posted the video anywhere have you? id be keen to see what happened.

As far as letting the "crazies" into society. My landlord has begun housing them in my house. He receives over £250 per week. The tenant receives around £80 per week, (jsa is only £65). All he does is take drugs, sleep with prostitutes, never cleans, and abuses everyone else in the house. Which is why most of us are now moving. And the landlord? well, so long as he receives the money, he doesn't care.

These people are supposed to get help, through mentoring, care etc, but in reality, they are left mostly to their own devices.

Me and the Wolfman find the arrangement rather convinient to be honest.

Will I get a free pen?

Anonymous said...

Probably, but you would have to write a letter to the Ed slagging off people with mental health issues first.

The footage is certainly alarming, with a large angry man swinging a machete at police. He's fortunate they didn't shoot him, or taser him at the very least. I pity the police having to deal with stuff like that.

Ahhhhh you beat me too it. Glad my mother is on holiday. She was already worrying about bomb scares this week

Brockley Jon said...

My word. First class nutter. Love the commentary from the blokes in the house!! "I wonder if they've already given them the heads up, 'you can't brutalize him lads, there's people filming'", LOL. Guys, if you're on here, make yourselves known - you deserve a drink!

Firstly, when did wheelie bins become standard police issue, and secondly, where's a taser when you need one!?

Anonymous said...

All those Police, couldn't half of them have gone around ticketing illegally parked vans and cars.

The Commentary was alright until he said "oh my days",then i was hoping the cops would come and batter him.

Anonymous said...

the 'oh my days' cracked me up - bleedin Goldsmith's students being all, like, really down with the yoot yeah... And the bit where his mate tried to open the blind and the other one freaked out in case the machete man saw him! hehehehe :) quality filming though and i hope the paper paid them for the video

These are the same police that people like Coney think are heavy-handed. If I was there he would have gotten the truncheon after the first dance around the car. Surprised they let him go on as long as they did.

Brockley Jon said...

I think they were waiting for critical mass... 30 vs 1!

Anonymous said...

Yes, beating the mentally ill is often the best way I've alwys said.

Coney said...

"These are the same police that people like Coney think are heavy-handed."

You are so pathetic.

Anonymous said...

Is that not true though Coney? That you think we live in a totalitarian state where the man just wants to bang us up?

Coney said...

Like I'm going to answer questions from someone he takes continually takes a pop at me from the cloak of anonymity.

mb said...

Detaining a possibly mentally ill person before he hurts himslef or others is and throwing an ecentric protester in jail for three days because he may have protested are two different things.

Tyrwhitt Michael said...

Don't forget in many countries including the US of A said "nutter" (really B. Jon) may well have been pushing up daisies by now.

We should be thankful for small mercies.

jerry l said...

It's true, the guy is very lucky to come out of it unscathed - I'm sure they could have justified shooting him.

It does seem a bit surprising that they had to improvise with a wheelie bin and didn't have a taser or whatever, but still, the outcome reflects well on the police.

"Like I'm going to answer questions from someone he takes continually takes a pop at me from the cloak of anonymity."

Typical of The Man - trying to take away my civil liberties too. There should be marches against people like you!

Anonymous said...

Maybe its because he's in a mental state they never tased him.

And true, a lot of Country's he would be brown bread now.

Danger to the police, should have got clobbered.

Hate it. I remember when Brockley used to be a nice place to raise your family, a nice place to live, a place where you actually wanted to live! I am moving out of Brockley after 50 years of living here - from birth! Taking my children (not so young) but I don't want them influenced by this, maybe a nice place on the Costas eh? Shame, I won't get as much as I hoped on my house because of this rubbish! Gahhhhhh

Mb said...

To the costas? Spain? Yep, absolutely no mentally Ill people there wielding knives.

Tyrwhitt Michael said...

MB you are actually correct. Now Tenerife that's a different matter.........

Today in another part of Lewisham there was incident that began about 10.30am with two PSCO's looking in a plastic bag.

They then stood guard over the bag, two rough looking blokes saunted across to them and they looked in the bag.

They stood talking for about 15 minute in which one the rough looking blokes mimed shooting a rifle and firing a hand hand.

The 2 PSCO's were left guarding the plastic bag...and about an hour later were joined by a third PSCO...who looked at the bag.

The third PSCO and one of the others walked off leaving one to guard the plastic bag.

After some while two police officers turned up and....looked in the bag and took over guard duty.

16 mins later 3 pot belly dudes rolled up in outfits from a NYPD police series...looked at the bag and sent the uniformed police on their way.

After about an hour a man in what looked like a bullet proofed vest approached, chatted and the went and got his police vehicle.

On his return he took photos of the threatening plastic bag and then donned full protective clothing mask and took a close look at the bag.

After about 30 mins the plastic bag was put in a sealed bag and the protective clothing in another...and they all left.

In all it took about 6 hours 8 officers to guard a plastic bag.

What was in the bag????
