Streetcar

With a mere ninety break-horse-power available, progress is too leisurely to be called fast, but on the motorway in fifth gear the Megane's slow pace really becomes a pain. Not my words, Carol. The words of Top Gear magazine.

Lewisham Council want to hear from people who are interested in Streetcar and will investigate installing new street bays in your area, if you email the council. There are a few bays in Brockley / St Johns - Reynards Close, Somerset Gardens, Lewisham Way, etc but it is getting harder to book a slot so it seems worth emailing the council if anyone wants more Streetcars...

Nick - do these quotes from the top of your head or do you have to look them up? I'm enjoying them, but a bit worried about the amount of tv you consume.

i've used it. Gets my vote, can also book transit vans. Really handy. (in a dull course about construction law)

What about remodelling Brockley Cross parking bays slightly to include a reserved Streetcar bay?

..assuming one of the double parkers don't box it in!

Uncanny timing for this thread - I emailed Streetcar just this morning saying they were missing a trick by leaving a large part of Brockley (i.e. south of Brockley Cross) not covered. They withdrew the car that previously covered this area, in Foxberry Rd, a few months ago (because the owner of parking space moved house, I believe).

One of my neighbours has offered her driveway to them (in the conservation area) and been told that they have more spaces than cars at the moment but will review the situation in a few months.

Maybe they are concerned about the level of demand. The more interest that we can demonstrate, the better.

I've only used it a few times, but I think it's a great idea, and for people who don't need a car every day it offers a relatively cheap alternative to car ownership.

Anon, I wondered what had happened to the Foxberry Rd slot - that used to be my regular one. At least with council spaces that same problem with people moving wouldn't happen.

The nearest Street Car parking for us in Ladywell is at the back of the swimming pool. I think there is a real gap for somewhere nearer to Vicars Hill/Ladywell Station.

Sent my email off yesterday, and got a reply this am - so it is definitely worth doing.
