The Deptford Deli closes
As mentioned on the Deptford forum, The Deptford Deli has shut down. The news comes only a few months after the Tanners Hill shop opened its basement as a restaurant.
A sign outside now advertises the shop space for let and their phone number no longer works. In May, they reported they were forced to close for a short time due to plumbing issues.

It's always a pity when an independent business that enhances an area shuts down.
It's all the more important that we cherish and buy from the businesses that we do have. Degustation does excellent breads, and French goodies,Browns sells superb coffee that apparently wipes the floor taste wise with anything that Starbucks or Costa do. Broca, does luscious homemade cakes. There is plenty in Brockley. Plus Caribbean food. This area is the Real Deal.
We really enjoyed the lunch we had there, and am very sorry it has closed. Wishing the owner lots of luck in her future endeavours.
shame - didn't even know it was there.
It was a great place. They were really friendly there too
This is no surprise as there aren't enough Guardianistas in Deptford to sustain both the Deli and the Deptford Project. Let's hope is doesn't become another bloody bookies!
They had evening talks as well - a really great idea. Missed one on bread-making which would have been interesting but did get to hear a bee-keeper who lives on a houseboat in Deptford Creek. Inspiring stuff. Just didn't manage to keep myself well enough informed of when these were going on.
@John - I wouldn't automatically assume that the problem was on the customer demand side.
That's a shame. I hope another one opens. The cafe that was here before was good too.
I think there should be a market (maybe farmers market or arts and crafts) this end of Tanners Hill and that would encourage business.
Just found lovely Toad's mouth has just put "business for selling"on their roof! cant believe the owner is gonna to give up her lovely restaurant! hope she is all right!
I have posted on this too. Interesting that both Deptford Deli and Deptford Properly (who were there before) had serious problems with flooding/plumbing. So if anybody else was thinking of opening something up there they would be advised to be certain that the landlord has sorted this out.
I can't believe the Toad's Mouth is up for sale. I love the place - it was such a relief to discover it when we first moved to Brockley six years ago and the evening meals are such good value for what you get. Really sad news if it is going.
Have you seen this? It's the British Map of Good, Honest Grub

There are pictures of some fantastic fare on there. No artisan tat, just good, honest grub. Thanks Monkeyboy!
Brockley restaurateurs and artis-anals take note.
hmmm I must say that egg atop bacon with beans and chips look very inviting right now.
Mmmm, good, honest bowel cancer. Yum.
Don't be such a puritan, a little bit of what you fancy now and again does no harm.
absolutely, sorry, my comment was aimed at the anon above you.
ok sorry too Bingo wing
You won't get in trouble if you keep your fare honest.
