The Brockley Boxes

Brockley is pioneering the community adoption of the area's old red phone boxes. Phone box guardian Ali provides an update on one of Brockley's coolest projects:

Now that the sun's been shining, volunteers from the neighbourhood have taken the first step towards looking after the two BT phone boxes adopted for the community. They've both had a good sweep-out and a scrub of all the years of collected grime.

Now that they're more welcoming, we'd like suggestions from the community as to what they'd like to see inside the boxes. A lending library? Performances? Please send us your ideas of what you'd like to see in them, and what you might like to do. We're starting a schedule for the use of the boxes.

Please contact us via our Facebook page at this link. And LIKE us too for further updates.

Love the idea of the community book swap phone box - although the thought of it filling up with old copies of Bridget Jones Diary, the Da Vinci Code and Fifty Shades of Grey is slightly off-putting! http://www.payphones.bt.com/adopt_a_kiosk/HTML/payphone/case-studies.htm

A place where 'personal' ads can be left on postcards?

Florence from Florence and the Machine will be selling vintage gowns and french linen Mon-Sat at irregular times. No really a Book Swap is a great idea with a strong don't piss here message. Great Work!

Turn it into a light box.

Put a bright light inside. get people (not artists) to submit images printed (or to print) on acetates on your home inkjet printer. one image per square window - great for polaroid/instagram type stuff). nice. change every month. or how about rent a window per week/month for small fee to charity.
