The online home for all things Brockley (SE4), Deptford, Ladywell, Lewisham and New Cross
Barbara's stuff is amazing.
Went past but no signs and just looks like someone's house?
Same here - and as I was going by memory that it was no 53 I didn't feel quite confident enough to ring the door-bell.Any chance of a re-run next week with a sign outside to convince the doubters?
I remember the same thing a couple of years ago when I went with Brockley Kate. We really weren't sure we were in the right place!
It is a pity - I made a special trip prepared to spend money. But should probably have had the bottle to knock on the door...
@Tamsin - so you knew that BW had gone to the trouble of making a flyer for the event and sending it to BC to promote. And you had all the details and had made a special trip, but because they didn't have sign outside the door, you didn't even knock!?Sometimes, I do not understand people.
Hi, its Barbara Wiggins here. I am really sorry that you felt tentative about knocking at the door. We are here all day today and tonight,if you do want to pop along or you can make an appointment this week (contact details on flyer). The sale was so popular that we are considering a re-run next Sunday so watch this space. A big thank you to all those who came along, it was a wonderful day!
Honestly tamsin! Couldn't you just have checked the flyer details on your phone? Or are you still using a Nokia 3310? ;-)
Tamsin - the law of the jungle say ... never show any kind of weakness on Brockley Central or you will make a fine meal for all the trolls out there.P.S. It’s alright to be uncertain in my book!
Sorry - the above was me - did not mean to click Anon
Nick as Tamsin has stated: "I was going by memory that it was no 53 I didn't feel quite confident enough to ring the door-bell."So she did not : "And you ha[ve]d all the details..."Considering the reports of muggers not to mention flashers about on that specific road, I do understand why someone would be reticient on uncertain doors & about getting a smart phone out to check details rather than keeping their attention on the location they're in.If someone is having a sale or an event at their home, it's not unreasonable to expect for a discreet notification, the flyer on the door for example to be present.
Who wants a smart phone? I'm smarter than my phone.
@Kolp - so now we're afraid to knock on someone's door in case they show us their genitals? Give over.
Nick has someone hacked your account today?
@Kolp - I have no interest in getting in to a discussion with you about Tamsin's attitude to door-knocking. I was expressing surprise to her, but I don't really care.On the other hand, your suggestion that we should be worried about knocking on people's doors in case of flashers or muggers is terrible.
My points are reasonable and fair, yours are not.
The postman has complained to us that he's nervous about pushing anything through our flap. Colin went to speak to him but he cycled off in a rush, must have been behind in his round.
Don't knock my nokia - when I have it with me, and when I turn it on, and when I remember to charge it up it's fine - it's a phone and it works. And if anyone stole it they would probably feel so sorry for me that they would give it back and also bung me twenty quid!I had set off confident of the address but - when you've gone to the trouble to produce a flyer (with or without the "r" in Christmas ;o)) - it's really odd not to put it up on the door or in a window so I genuinely thought I had the wrong address.Next Sunday I will know.
Yes please to a repeat on Sunday - I couldn't make it this weekend.
