Tell your friends. Tell your neighbours. Tell Randy Gonzalez. The new 484 is coming.

A new bus is coming. It has an engine that can make a wolverine purr and seats so fine they make the 172 look like a hobo. It will drive the streets of Brockley in times good and it will drive the streets of Brockley in times bad.

From March 2011, the 484 will be served by E200Dart/Enviro200 single decker buses, which promise to be smoother and quieter than before, which is good news for people who live along the route.

Needless to say, it does nothing to address our lack of direct connections to Charing Cross.

Thanks to 853blog for pointing it out.

But does it have an off door as well as the main front door? It would be so much easier to use if it did.

Sorry it's one of my particular bug bears!

According to its wikipedia entry, the London version has two doors.

Isn't it amazing what's on Wikipedia? Just amazing...

Whatever happened to those buses that Ken was trialling in London that ran on hydrogen and their only exhaust was water vapour? They seemed fantastic. I remember cycling behind them and being pleased at not have a face full of diesel PM10s....

Thanks Nick. I should read things a bit more carefully! I was just trying to tell from the pictures :-)

Now that is good news (about the doors). The 484 is absolutely packed the whole length of its route - in rush hours and term-time, that is - it was a lot more comfortable to use this last fortnight and over the summer. Having a separate off door will make a difference.

I hope I haven't misunderstood what two doors means and you're just going to get a double door at the front :)
