New 484s introduced

Albert Einstein issued one of my most favourite quotes in the history of the spoken word. And it is as follows: In the middle of opportunity... 'scuse me. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity. I'm going to repeat that so I have clarity tonight. In the middle of difficulty, lies opportunity. This is the opportunity we've been waiting for!

The softer, gentler 484 buses have begun operation and Vesta Road resident 'Vesta Curry' reports:

The new Enviro 200 buses have started plying the 484 route - very significant improvement in noise pollution! I live on Vesta Road and the buses gunning up the hill were very noisy. I would say 50% less noise.

Rode them on Saturday, and I smelled of 'new bus smell' for at least 10 minutes after.
They were very nice, and the lack of advertising in them was great.

I live on Endwell Road and have noticed a real drop off in noise.

I definitely get a better sleep and am a lot less like Lou in the mornings.

Hurrah!

Brilliant, I hope they extend them to the 171 Route which causes so much noise on Adelaide Avenue its ridiculous...

The 171 doesn't go down Adelaide avenue, and I don't think many users of the route would be pleased if double deckers were replaced with 2/3 length single deckers.

I've seen a few of those hydrogen buses popping up in central London again, the ones that only create water as a bi product, good news that we're getting some decent new buses!

Your right Anon - meant to say route 122, instead of 171 -

They now have two doors. This is good as getting off the old buses when packed was hard work and made for a slower journey because no one could get on until everyone getting off was out, but it means less space for passengers, particularly pushchairs. There's now only one designated space for wheelchairs, which is obviously mostly going to be used by pushchairs, whereas the old buses had two.

I got one for the first time tonight and can confirm it now has exit doors and still smells new depsite two days of use!

Wow, also live on Endwell and hadn't noticed the new buses but are definately much better (though the speed bumps still cause some noise fluctuation). Still begs the question though why the 484 needs to come down Endwell at all. Before Vesta Road bridge closed, it used to go down there and onto Shardaloes but the route was never changed back after the bridge opened sadly.

Arrrghhh.. I officially hate the new 484s ... Damn... less space for passengers!!! Just had one fly pass because it was too full!!! Not happy!

I live Shell Road / Cliffview area and the reduction in noise from the new buses is significant and welcome. The old ones completely stopped garden conversations in summer when accelerating uphill. Would hydrogen buses be silent and so even better than these?
