Night Stalker found guilty

Delroy Grant, of Honor Oak, has been convicted of 29 separate offences, including rape, in a series of attacks between 1992 and 2009 that earned him the nickname "The Night Stalker". The Southwark man was found guilty of crimes across the capital and the south east, including Croydon, West Dulwich and Forest Hill.

The Police believe he may have been responsible for more than 500 separate attacks on the elderly.

Following the jury's verdict, Judge Rook told Grant:

'You have been convicted of 29 offences of the utmost gravity. I am not going to sentence you today because there are various matters that the barristers want to put before me. 'You should appreciate the sentence you receive will be what is called an indeterminate sentence. The term will be 'very long indeed'.

Thank you Nick! you'd think the Brockley Society could send a letter out to the press or something about this matter.

Anyway thank goodness that pervert is finally locked away.

It's an academic issue - Brockley Mews is in Southwark, but it's also SE4 and it's probably best described as Honor Oak.

But while it's not an association anyone would choose, it doesn't really make any difference - it's not like the fact that he lived there meant or means that you were in greater peril.

Most people I encounter outside the area hadn't heard of Brockley, except in association with this!

It's not accurate Nick and it's not right for his name to associated with Brockley.

All your good work in pumping up this area could be undermined.

News flash!

Bad person lived somewhere.

A local site cannot but report that he's been convicted and that he lived in the vicinity. Other than that what's to say? Move on.....

still auditioning to be a moderator on this site?

Not at all. Feel free to pour over his activities if you like.

Why do you feel the need to tell people what to do or how or how approach things on this site?

I'm sorry. Go ahead fill your boots.

Charlie,
That's classic Hyacinth Bucket from Keeping up Appearances. Like the the Evening Std is going to print an apology for incorrectly saying he's from Brockley.

Every ward in London has people who do bad things. Don't worry, I'm sure it won't affect house prices!!

Unless Charlie is trolling, I cannot believe that dozens of elderly people have been burgled and sexually assaulted and some people's concern is that the culprit did not live in the same sub-district of south London as them.

It's beyond belief that this sick creature could have struck 600 times. :-( Glad he has been caught, and not before time.

telly said he was Forest Hill didn't it?

For those who care, I work in the media and the cops and the court referred to his address as being in Brockley, as did he! Being pedantic it'd be Crofton Park, but that's not an official area as recognised by eg the postcode system. It is just a stone's throw behind Budgens...

Bad people do not live in Forest Hill or Honor Oak. Brockley Mews must either be in Brockley or Nunhead.

Hundreds of extra victims because the police failed to do their job.

Shocking.

Look! I am not going to lie I do have a substantial financial stake in Brockley and things that do down the area, are of a concern. But this was simply inaccurate.

Nick has been doing a fantastic job pumping up this area for years, and has really helped not just me but many of us here.

@ charlie (and others). I really am aghast and incredulous that your main concern about the 'Night Stalker' case is about the reputation of the area.

Lots of vulnerable elderly people were terrorised by this guy and the effect on their lives and those of their families must have been horrific.

Anyone reading the news stories can tell he operated relatively far from here. Most areas will have their high-profile criminal residents.

Please admit to us you're a troll and restore my faith in human nature.

Imagine if a victim/victim's relative read this thread. The impression they'd get is that people in Brockley are more concerned about the reputation of their neighbourhood than about concern for vulnerable elderly people and (as Lou Baker has mentioned) police failures.

Areas have been tarnished for years when associated with high profile crime. Think of the Stockwell Strangler, Brixton Riots, Yorkshire ripper, of course the crimes are awful but what can I do? It is for the justice system to right those wrongs. All i can say on this matter is that is simply FACTUALLY incorrect to say that criminal lived in Brockley. It's not fair on Nick and the rest of us who do work to pump up Brockley.

"It's not fair on Nick and the rest of us who do work to pump up Brockley."

Yes, let's not forget who the real victim of the Nightstalker is... me!

charlie said...

lol @Nick clearly that doesn't read well, what I meant was about the press getting things wrong. You have put years and much effort pumping up Brockley.

About the victims & relatives, it's action from the police they'd benefit from rather than platitudes.

@charlie, stop banging on about it then. You seem to be the one obsessed by it, I doubt anyone else sees any significance in where he happened to live. I doubt the lake district will see visitors plummet because a crazed taxi driver died his thing.

Relax, your "substantial financial stake"' or home as most people see it, is quiet safe.

Where does all this leave Night Doggers?

I lived in SW8 for 23 years and this is the first I've ever heard of a Stockwell Strangler!

But Oryx you were a South Lambethian. Why should Stockwell concern you?
