Local businesses shortlisted for Lewisham Business Awards 2010

The finalists for the Lewisham Business Awards 2010 have been announced. Local heroes Babur, the Broca, the Ladywell Tavern, Geddes Salon (twice) and the Shop on the Hill are among those shortlisted.

Best pub is a welcome new category this year but in a borough where (perhaps with the happy exception of Brockley) pubs have continued to struggle in the last year, it's a shame only three pubs are shortlisted - and if Jam Circus entered then they were robbed.

Here's the full list. The winners are announced on March 11th, when a £5,000 prize will be awarded to the overall winner.

I've never been, but everyone I've spoken to in the area seems to love it.

Should that first category be best employer, rather than employee?

First off, this is Richard, ex-Jam Circus, I'm managing the Royal Albert in New Cross now and Katje, ex-assistant manager of JC is now the manager there.

I considered applying for the awards at JC, but just couldn't find the time to be honest.

I'll be sniffing around BC as ever, still very much living in Brockley, might even post once in a while.

Can I quickly repeat the congratulations to Neil & Lynsey of Exchange Coffee in Lewisham market for doing so well in the UK barista champs. Neil came 3rd after qualifying in 1st, well ahead of anybody else. You couldn't wish for two nicer people to do well and it's just extraordinary we have these guys and the coffee they serve on our doorstep, as well as Browns.

BC drinks at the royal albert? All part of the five year plan to expand Brockleys borders by stealth

The Royal Albert said...

I'm torn - Brockley's borders are perfect as they are, but then I want to say my pub is in Brockley!

More than welcome, encouraged in fact, to hold the drinks here. It's a lovely pub, but bear in mind it's a project at the moment, lots to do!

Yes, the Albert would be great.

I think we owe JC another BC Drinks first - and we haven't had one at the Orchard. I'm working on a slightly different type of event before I organise another drinks night. More details soon.

Also, we're hoping to pull off another music night as part of the Brockley MAX.

I would like to second Richard and congratulate Neil and Lynsey also.
I think seem as Richard has now gone to RA, I think it can be an honorary brockley pub, just for a bit though. Sweeeeet.

Hope It will be as good as when It used to be the Royal Albert,Live music et all.

Ah, Mr Samuel Luke on BC, good to see! I can now come to a JCBC drinks purely as a person of brockley. A customer if you will. Heady days. Can't decide if i'll whinge about it going downhill or sing it's praises to the sky.

Look forward to BC drinks in the orchard - mere minutes from home.

Another competition that the Broca people are entering - this time against each other - is the Cake Competition in the Telegraph Hill Centre on Saturday. Anyone who has strong feelings about which of their cakes they prefer - or just wants the opportunity to taste them (and many others) for £1 - can go along and vote between 1 and 3pm.
