How to improve Brockley Cross

The Brockley Cross Action Group recorded this video at their recent Open Meeting. Turns out real people want the same things that virtual ones do: Less litter, reduced traffic chaos, more trees, better cycling, smarter shop fronts, better accessibility at the station and a pedestrianised Coulgate Street.

A pedestrianised Coulgate Street would be amazing for Brockley! We'd have a focal point and a "town centre" at last.

Not have a substance abuse centre right in the middle that serves the north of the borough? :-)

Saw the consultation doc re the Substance Misuse Centre in the little building next to Howarths - going to open 7 days/week day and eve to service all NNorth Lewisham users
"..the highest number of people accessing specialist treatment are users of heroin, crack and cannabis".
Just when I thought I'd only have to negoitate the dodgy crossing safely!! FYI consultation link is http://lewisham-consult.limehouse.co.uk/portal. Its watered down from the one they gave out at BXAG Open Forum!Hmmm

I'm waiting for the Newshopper headline

"Peado Center In Brockley, Residents Anger"

there were no hipsters in the video, this is an important demographic in Brockley.

Some decent cycle paths would be welcome, particularly around BX. As much as I like the pavement widening, it has made the road a lot narrower, and therefore more difficult for cyclists as they come round the bend under the railway bridge.

Re: the video, I've thought of a name for her swan. Flamingo.

Also, on the subject of vans parked all over Foxberry Road by the Barge, does anyone know why this has been allowed? They already have that eyesore of a forecourt to park in; why the need to litter the streets with their vans too?

Coulgate pedestrianised would be superb. Brown's and the Broca could put seating outside and the area would have a focus.

interesting to see that most people in this video live west side whereas Brockley Cross is east side - so I guess it shows how the cross affects lots of people, not just the ones who live right on it.

How about a cycle lane southbound from Brockley Cross along Brockley Road, heading under the railway bridge and on towards the bottom of Cranfield Road? Bikes always get squeezed out going round the corner, and some guidance might help drivers pay more attention.

Paint the bridge or light it, artistically. This will uplift the area.

Agreed!

Yep loving the light up the bridge idea!
