Brockley Central Drinks Presents: The Talbot
It's kinda like a speakeasy kind of thing. It's kinda cool. It's like you're in on some kind of secret. You tell a chick you've been some place, it's like bragging that you know how to find it. The only way you could know where a place is is if someone who knows brought you there. You have to have someone come before. There is a direct line connecting you back to the original, unequivocally cool, club patrons. It's kinda like Judaism...

7pm onwards
The Talbot, Tyrwhitt Road
We've never dared to try and organise a Brockley Central drinks night on a Friday before, because we're all supposed to have better things to do with ourselves. But then, we've never had the carrot of a sneak preview of the newly-refurbish, long-awaited, heavily-trailed Talbot to offer you before.
Brockley Central veterans may remember the last time we took you to The Talbot, back in May 2008, for a hint of what we hoped was to come. It was an intimate affair, for those people who wanted to learn how a dilapidated but beautiful pub might be restored.
Those plans unfortunately never materialised and for a while it looked like the naysayers would be proven right. But then, this summer, Felix swooped in and achieved what no-one else has managed - delivering a new-look pub in an extraordinarily short amount of time, despite one or two setbacks along the way.
Now, true to his word, he's ready to open next week and to let Brockley Central readers to put him to the test.
BC readers are cordially invited to join Felix on the evening of the 27th, the night before the pub formally opens (bookings for lunch from the 28th!). He writes:
I would like to extend a special invitation to all Brockley Central readers and would like to welcome everyone from 7pm.
There will be some delicious canapes 'on the house' and a paying bar.
I really hope that everybody likes and enjoys the new place.
See you there.
Kind regards
Felix
It would be great to see as many of you there as possible and see if we can get close to the numbers we saw at the Ladywell Tavern for Brockley Central's Brockley Max night during the summer.
Even if it is a Friday.

Top stuff. Mighty excited. See you there!
It would be great to have a really good pub round here. I work in Islington and they're ten-a-penny there ...
Great news! We'll be there with bells on.
Me too - can't wait!
'bout bloomin' time. Can't quite believe it! See you there!
I have an insanely busy week next week and I was convinced the drinks were going to clash and I wouldn't be able to make it but I'm actually free on Friday! Yay.
Of course, I may fall asleep in my G&T but that's another matter!
a pub wholly and exclusively full of brockley central readers - sounds divine
Wonderful! Will definitely be there.
Walked past this morning to note some frenzied (inevitably) Polish building activity. Great stuff.
This Felix guy seriously knows how to market his product. I really wish him well and will be there to toast him on Friday.
great news.hopefully more people will use the talbot as a local than in the last decade
I'm not sure it will only be Brockley Central readers, Love Detective, as there is a big sign in the window advertising it!
Still, an interminable wait appears to be over...
p.s.
Well-behaved dogs welcome?
my only regret is that it isn't that close to Brockley station but I will go and check it out and take it from there
Come home via St Johns Cat-Man, the prowl will do you good.
Hope theres not too many dogs.
Hoping for a thread entitled 'Brockley's Got Talent' the morning after.
Or Brockley got Drunk
Hurrah! Good pub within staggering distance home! I'll be there!
The Cat crept In then crept out again
Was It Cat-Mans round
The front of the pub now carries 'THE TALBOT' in large green letters.
True test will be lunch on Sunday.
Bring it on.
The real test, will be good beer every day.
I wish I could make it but I can't. Someone at work is leaving and we're having a leaving do for him. Have fun.
I might turn up, is there free beer?
Free milk for Cats and water for Dogs apparently
"The front of the pub now carries 'THE TALBOT' in large green letters."
i trust the signage is 'sympathetic' to the surrounding area?
Is there a phone number to book for lunch?
Yes - Love Detect.. it is.
Will be there with a couple of tohers - am glad to see this up and running
Might not be able to get In the door,I'll leave It till Saturday.Dont think this lot are capable of drinking It dry.
The wife and are currently sitting in a riverside cafe in phnom penh Cambodia, two weeks into our six month honeymoon. It's great to be able to catch up with Brockley goss on the iPhone through Brockley Central. Great news about the Talbot! A couple of thoughts... Speedicars should invest in tuks tuks and there's alot to be thankful for with life in Brockley (anyone with a whinge about dodgy paving or bookmakers should come and see what the poor Cambodians have had to endure!).
Thanks for keeping us up to date with all things Brockley and enjoy the drinks!
Good grief no! Tuk tuks, although perhaps a charming anachronism in SE Asia are basically noisy, smelly bikes with 2 stroke engines. The last thing I'd want hammering around the quieter streets of Brockers!
Yeah, better the ones with pedal power.
Simply the best news this Sandrock family have had in ages! A good local pub in crawling distance... Please let the food be good, have nice veggie options for my lady and manager who can keep a good cellar!
So how'd you prove your a bc reader to get in to the sneak preview this Friday?

as pointed out in a parallel thread, there is no sneak preview; it's open to all according to the sign in the window.
Fer cryin out loud, no one's ever said it was exclusive and anyone posting on here is by definition a brockley central reader. Be bad form if the pub was turning away locals on its first night - it's just a nice chance for us all to meet up!
And the Manor Avenue Militia will be there!
Anybody's welcome,He'd never make a living from the people on here.
