Brockley Central does the World Cup?
The World Cup is nearly with us. BC is very excited already.
The question is - are you? And are you up for us trying to organise a pub night to coincide with England v USA on June 12th?
If you are, what would be your preferred venue? We're thinking the Wickham Arms with the doors flung open on a warm evening.
Please use this thread to let us know if you're interested.
And on a related matter, Michael the Brockley casting agent has been in touch, to see if any readers are interested in taking part in a World Cup advert for Umbro. Details below:
In the commercial a group of 11 people sing along to the national anthem, in the same way that footballers do before the kick off of an international game. It should be a fun commercial, that will capture the mood and excitement of the World Cup. The director is keen for this group to represent everyone in England so there is no specific 'type' that he's looking for, it is open to everyone. Filming is scheduled for next Friday and Saturday 21st / 22nd in London and I will be casting right up until then. Anyone used in in the commercial will be paid £200.
If you would like to get involved then drop me a call or an email and I'll arrange to meet you over the next week.
Many thanks

If they're looking for a miserable misanthrope then there are plenty to be found here ;-)
the wickham, we don't want gastro. We need burgers, beer and noise
sounds like a great plan. My brother is going to the match - so I'm sure I'll be getting all sorts of abusive txt's from him to share with you.
But with my final tickets in hand, I think I'll get over it ;)
Well it wont be The Talbot thats for sure.
Umbro are splashing out then.
Barge?
Talbot ?
I dont really care where we go, as long as they have beer, big screen and great atmosphere :)
best world cup bets
I seem to recall a Hog Roast was promised by the Wickham. That must take a bit of beating.
It also means I get some peace and quiet in the Talbot.
Tee Hee ;-)
Oh yes.
I was excited about the World cup until Beckham snapped his Achilles tendon.
Where ever its watched it will be good, maybe some people will be watching repeats of other England's Victory's in the no show pub's
I was worried about the world cup until Beckham snapped his tendon. Now he won't embarrass us by getting a red card or kicking a simple penalty way over the bar . . .
Stupidly I entered the Windsor triathlon which is on the 13th - so I shall be having a quiet, beerless, night in. (Unless I have an injury of course . . . )
'Other England victorys?', we're in 'what could possibly go wrong?' territory already.
Lep Recorn - you bastard, we couldnt get a place on the Windsor Tri. You doing Olympic / Sprint?
We've gone with the Thames Turbo (again).
You doing the London Tri in August?
Perhaps one pub could take a risk and be a footy free zone for the cup. White wine for the ladies?
B
Doing the Windsor Olympic distance, did the East Grinstead sprint last Sunday. Also doing the new Dartford Olympic event at the end of July.
I shall be refereeing at London - so if you let me have your numbers I shall DQ you!
Lep:
Seems your quite into it! We've only just started, so we've done one sprint already, got the other in 2 weeks - really using it to practice transition.
Then we get married and go on honeymoon for 3 weeks, get back and go do the London Olympic.. i see it going pear shape.
I will be keeping my number to myself ;)
I think you will find The Talbot will be footy free.
Care for a little wager on that Anon???
Yep
Okay see you at Le talbeau for the first England game, 1 pint of whatever summer special is on and we'll say no more about it. Screening upstairs like for the 6N, unless they can figure a way of bringing screen down. Cheers.
Do you think there will still be references to 1966? It's getting embarasing now......DOH! just done it!
B.
Yup!
I cant watch football when you cant swear at a bad decision and end up getting chucked out because of it.swearing that is.
Well the feedback hasn't exactly provided a definitive answer, but I'm going to the pub anyway.
Football on TV is best watched in a busy pub, so I just want to ensure that whichever I choose is nice and lively. Purely selfish plan this one.
Weather permitting The Wickham is hoping to have a large screen in the Garden.
Is sweary Anon. the same anon that took my little wager?
Mmmmmm, 'Highly trustworthy individuals think others are like them, causing them to assume too much social risk, to be cheated more often....', and then theres something uncomplimentary about 'Low trustworthiness types'.
I will be avoiding the World Cup. so pubs not showing football - please recommend...
It sure was Now Then,I'll buy you a drink anytime Colm.
