Brockley Central Presents - The Ladywell Tavern, Thursday 3rd June

The biggest ever Brockley Max festival is less than a week away. Whilst this means some great free music and art events with a healthy dose of community spirit, it also means we have work to do, as the second ever Brockley Central music night is almost upon us!

Our contribution to the festival will take place on Thursday 3rd June, once again at the excellent Ladywell Tavern. Whilst the finer details are still being tweaked, we can promise you a cracking line up:

Tracey's Love

Tracey's Love, yes they are indeed in the middle of a snow covered fieldTracey's Love play upbeat 80s influenced indiepop, and formed from "an unhealthy obsession with Belle & Sebastian" (nothing wrong with that). They're playing the O2 Islington Academy this Friday, so we think we're in good company. For our night, the band are playing a stripped down acoustic set - a bit more fitting for the Tavern's somewhat intimate stage area.

Andrea Mann

Andrea MannAndrea is a Brockley-based jazz performer with a smoky "late night" vocal style, who sings classic jazz, bossa nova, and chilled re-interpretations of pop tracks. Andrea is stopping by to do a low-key solo set on the piano (she has a busy week - you can also see her at the Wickham this Saturday 29th with acclaimed local jazz guitarist Dave Colton, and also solo at The Talbot on Monday 31st).

The Madding Crowd

The Madding CrowdNever knowingly pigeon-holed, south London based The Madding Crowd describe themselves as a mash-up of British blues, rock'n'roll, shoegaze, electro & punk. This hottly tipped unsigned band look set to win the song names competition hands-down, with titles such as 'Oi, Oi I'm Gordon Brown', 'Birds 'n' Booze', and 'Pass me The Butter, Dear'.

Outside the Law: Stories from Guantánamo 1900(Dir. Polly Nash and Andy Worthington, 2009) This new documentary tells the story of Guantanamo, focusing on three British prisoners and providing a powerful rebuke to those who believe that Guantanamo holds "the worst of the worst." Time Out says: “[T]his is a strong movie examining the imprisonment and subsequent torture of those falsely accused of anti-American conspiracy.” Followed by Q&A with Andy, who is also a journalist and the author of "The Guantanamo Files." Looking forward to it. If it's as hectic as last year's Brockley Central at The Ladywell Tavern, the day after will be a trial
