A budgerigar walks in to a bar...
Ed from The Orchard has just got in touch:
Believe or not a budgerigar has just walked (yes, walked) into the bar. We have it safe in a box in the quiet for the time being but it has obviously escaped from somewhere. Can you put a posting on the blog to let people know? It seems ok, and can fly as we found out trying to catch it.
In the meantime I am trying to think of a joke.

Suggest you ask on Twitter
Could it be a brockley wild budgie?
Wild? It was furious!
Let me out of this bloody box please, I need a pint!
A budgie walks into a bar. Which is daft, really, as he should be swinging on it.
Perhaps it had just had a flutter at corals, lost, and needed a stiff drink.
I suspect this is cheep viral marketing - the Orchard owners trying to feather their nest.
I think the bird got the wrong pub and was looking for the Bargerigar.
Perhaps he was just feeling peckish.
I didn't realise this story would ruffle so many feathers.
Maybe its from Budgens
I think it is a sign of the times that a Budgie can walk into a Bar and cause such a fuss. If colour doesn't matter then why should species?
I look forward to a day when I can view great tits at the bar.
The question is, will the masses flock to the Orchard to see it?
Maybe it wanted to try a Woodpecker.
Maybe, let's hope it doesn't take wing too soon else people might get in a flap about it.
Love it!
BTW - was the snake which I believe was also reported lost on this blog a good while back now ever found?
Like the budgie, the snake had actually been found, rather than lost. There was a hunt for its owner.
It's not a baby parakeet is it? There are several green ones living in the trees near the playground on Hilly Fields
A budgie that chooses not to fly? Sounds like it needs to be decommissioned early *phones Osbourne*
Wouldn't mind if one of the birds from the orchard perched on me for a while.
careful, you could get shat on.
No wonder, I hear the Orchard has excellent cuttlefish on the menu. But be warned, it gets very busy at beak times.
Shame it wasn't a canary, we could have had a whole thread about mines and safety warnings as a metaphor for impending public sector cuts. But seriously what is the point of SE London hyper-local blogging if it can't reunite a budgie and its rightful owner?
Come on though Orchard, where's the description of said bird? Was it a blue one (there used to be one called Sky at Chelwood Nursery School), a yellow one or what?
Do you not think, Lewisham Animal Welfare should be informed?
Informing to the animal police? What are you, a stool pigeon?
oh dear, this really is going to drag on a bit.
yeah shut ya beaks people, but stork in it will ya!
Fly oh fly oh fly is there always a moaner? If you want bird-brained opinions, spouted parrot-fashion then there's always the letters page of the Flews Shopper.
I just prey it stops soon.
Let him out! He's my wingman at the Orchard
Based on some of the budgie gags here I certainly hope the Jam Circus comedy nights are full of imported talent!
I've been groaning more than avian a laugh
Well I'm sorry, but this site encourages rubbish jokes and that's a position on which I won't budge.
Your site frequently promtps owls of laughter.
Whether the jokes are funny or fowl, we should accept that it's just the way it flamingoes.
Some of you are pretty swift with the puns, but some are hard to swallow.
Maybe he only wants a drink and get away from BC readers who are having a Field Day!
Was he going to a 'tweet up' event?
I heard he was just after a nightjar
He heard the chicken that crossed the road went in there.
Good job he didn't come in the Talbot as there is a rather nice Ginger Cat which appears to have adopted the place.
Would have found the budgie rather toothsome I expect.
Bit worried about the proliferation of Michaels in Tyrwhitt Road but I am definitely a Michael not a Mike or a Mick
Maybe it was lured in by the bar snacks. Nothing suceeds like a toothless budgie.
Update - Budgie is well and has found foster home for time being. It's a she, and was very worn out and hungry from adventures but seems to be perking up now. South London Press photographed her yesterday and may be in paper next week. Ed@Orchard informed all lost animal services and has put up posters.
Now I'm not one to resort to crude stereotypes, although they do save time, but in Italy said budgie would be an ex-budgie by now - if you know what I mean.
MB - lovely plumage though I parrot. . .
MB, do you think that that budgie may have escaped from one of the local Italian establishments?
My Granny always suspected her mum of cooking cats during the war.
who was looking for the budgeribar...
